Why are misspellings for errant spaces in words showing up in my subscription when they display correctly on the live page?

By Guðrún Unnur Gústafsdóttir

You may have noticed in your list of misspellings or potential misspellings that errant spaces appear even though when looking at the word in context, the word is shown correctly on the live page. This happens because Siteimprove's crawler crawls through your page's HTML code and not the page's live version.

If you check the Page Report for the word, and click on "Show HTML" at the top of the page, you are shown the HTML code (what Siteimprove crawls). You will see the misspelling (highlighted in red) and potential misspelling (highlighted in yellow). There, you will see that there could be problem with how the code is written, which explains why errant spaces in words may be showing up in Quality Assurance. The best thing to do would be to fix the error in the HTML code through your CMS, or to ignore the misspelling on that particular page.
