This article helps define different terms used in the Behavior Map within Siteimprove Analytics.

Interactions: The sum of clicks and scrolls on a specific page. In the below screenshot, the page has been viewed 11,482 times in the chosen period and has been interacted (scrolls+clicks) with on 5,575 occasions. If a visitor clicks twice on a specific page and scrolls three times down the same page, this will add up to five interactions which will be logged to the system.

Note: page views are not the same as visits. All page views are counted no matter how many times a user has visited the specific page in the chosen period of time. Read more about the different metrics in Analytics.

Element:
A term used in Click Map. An element is anything that can be interacted with on a page, whether is may be a link, form, text etc. An element is equivalent to a tag in HTML, although you can find elements that are not a part of the HTML source. You can learn more about HTML elements in the link.

Screenshots: Screenshots (also known as screendumps, screencaptures, or screengrabs) are images taken by our systems of a specific page. So when you add a page to Behavior Map by providing the URL or page title of the page, our systems will take a "picture" of what the page looks like.

Screenshots will only show on the pages you have added to Behavior map. It can take up to 10 minutes for a screenshot to be visible in the tool after a page is added. Siteimprove's system needs to collect visitor data before being able to view any Behavior Map data. If no visitors come on the specific page you have added to Behavior Map, then no screenshot will be generated until visitors come to your page.

Overlay: When displaying the different Behavior Maps, you can choose between three overlay options: light, dark or none. An overlay darkens or lightens the background of the page for you to better visualize clicks or scrolls on the page. The choice of overlay depends on your preference.

Scales in Behavior Map: The scale used to categorize elements in regards the different Behavior Maps ranges from "fewest" (cold, dark colors) to "most" (warm, bright colors). "Fewest" translates to elements of a page that spark the least attention of your visitors, while at the other end of the spectrum "most" translates to elements of a page that spark the most attention of your visitors. You can always choose a color scale that match your preferences in the Settings icon next to the color scale.

Screenshot selector: Is the menu provided to filter interactions by screen resolution, such as desktop, mobile or tablet. If you choose the Mobile view, for instance, a screenshot of the mobile version of the page will be displayed.
