How do I ignore a Policy on individual pages? How do I reverse a decision?

By Guðrún Unnur Gústafsdóttir

This article covers how to ignore a Policy multiple and individual pages, and how to reverse a previously ignored Policy. Please note that ignoring Policies differs between Policy types: Media, Document or Content.

The main difference between Document/Media and Content Policies is that when you ignore in Media/Document Policies you ignore the item and therefore all the pages where that item is on, whereas the Content Policy ignores the page and not the item.

How to ignore a Media and/or Document Policy:

When ignoring Media and Document Policies, the ignore function will apply to ALL pages where the document/media file that meets the criteria of the Policy is found. To do this, following these steps:

  1. Click Policies in the tool navigation.
  2. Click on the relevant Policy (Media or Document policy) to view the documents/media files that match the Policy.
  3. From the list of documents/media files that match the policy, find the specific item where you want to ignore.
  4. Click on the  button next to the Policy match to ignore the item for this specific Policy. Ignoring the item will effect on all pages where the item is found. From the screenshot below, you can see that the image will be ignored on the 9 pages the specific image was found.

Note: A Policy cannot be ignored on all pages across your website like in Quality Assurance. You have to tweak your existing policy matches/criteria so you will not receive false/positive results. You can alternatively delete the Policy if you do not wish to have it implemented on your site.

How to ignore a Content Policy on individual pages:

It may be helpful to ignore the Policy matches on specific pages but make corrections on other pages. To ignore a Policy on a specific page take the following steps in Policy:

  1. Click on Policies in the tool navigation.
  2. Click on the relevant Content Policy to view the pages that match the policy made.
  3. From the list of URLs where a Policy match was found, find the specific page where you want to ignore the policy match on.
  4. Click on  button on the Policy to ignore it on that specific page.

Note: When ignoring a Policy on individual pages, all instances of the Policy on the page will be ignored.

How to reverse a Policy decision

  1. Click on Policies in the tool navigation.
  2. Filter for Ignored matches.
  3. Click on the  button to reverse the Policy decision for that page.

Note: You will be able to see the reversed policy decision in the Policy list once a re-crawl of your site has taken place.
